This is one of the most epic and foundational stories in the Bible, and especially the Hebrew ("Old") Testament.  It is a reminder that not only is God with us, but that God is with everyone, and God will not choose the rich and wealthy over the poor and oppressed.  Many gods have been used to keep people in positions of power.  The God of Moses and Abraham, is one that helps the poor, oppressed, left out, and left behind.  How is God helping the poor and oppressed today?  Who is God using, as standing up to powerful people is not easy!?

This video includes the idea that "Pharoah is not a god, nor a monster - he's just a human being who has forgot what it means to be human being."  How do we view our "enemies," and what do we hope for people who have harmed us?  This is an ongoing question I continue to wrestle with.

"Freedom!" (Chapter 9 in We Make the Road by Walking).

Here's a quote from today's reading:

"If you're looking for a thirty-minute story with a happy ending every time, it's hard to find in the Bible - just as it is in real life.  Instead, we discover the presence of God with us in our troubles, helping us deal with them, helping us discover solutions to them, helping us deal with the new problems inevitably created by those solutions, and so on.  Through it all, we discover God's faithful desire to help the downtrodden, the oppressed, the exploited, and the forgotten." pg. 38
