Creation

March 24

Children

Creation is always an interesting conversation.  When I was growing up, church people were arguing about science and the power of the Bible, so we missed a lot of what our two Creation stories tell us.  This is the story of Creation "week," but it's point is not about time, and it was never meant to be a science book today.  What do you hear in this story, and does it have any meaning for you today with all that is going on?

*Children can also follow along in a Story Bible.  pgs. 2-5 in Whirl Kids Story Bible, and you can continue reading 6-9 to fill in the gaps before our next story tomorrow.

Students/Youth

I really wish we could have a conversation about each of these topics and especially this one!  Science and Religion are only antagonists (enemies) when we make them so.  Otherwise, science never intended to fight religion, and religion was never created to fight science.  We could have a long conversation of what transpired to make these two "enemies" instead of "siblings" over the centuries.  But that is my view.  I truly wonder what you have to say, and if you think it's possible to be a Scientist and a Christian.  Who has influenced your views the most on this subject, and why do you value their perspective?  Is it a parent, teacher, friend, celebrity, book, or something/one else?  Here's a youtube video on Creation from a different perspective.

Parents/Adults

"Awe and Wonder" (Chpt. 1 in We Make the Road by Walking).  As we teach our children about the earth and the universe, do our three stories of Creation give us hope? How do we explain creation in a way that gives hope, meaning and joy?  And if we do use these two stories, how do we use them for community and connection instead of blame and mysogony?  Hope this is a light enough topic to start your Tuesday :-).  If you want additional reading, Chapters 2-4 are not part of the Childrens Curriculum, but give a good foundation to the (re)framing of Genesis.  Chapter 2 is the creation story with Adam and Eve, Chapter 3 is the creation story that starts the Gospel of John, and Chapter 4 is the story of Adam and Eve's family.

Remember, you are never alone!

Peace,

Tory
